Entertainment
Saturdays | Kim LaRae
Kim LaRae, pianist, has been a featured entertainer at T. Ashwell's since the first day we opened our doors. Her extensive music library challenges any music goer to stump her with a difficult music request. Classical, contemporary, jazz, standards, musicals, or whatever else you wish to listen to is only a simple request away. Kim LaRae has performed with AFT, American Folklore Theater, Peninsula Players, and other musical groups in the Door County area. Kim was also featured on NPR, National Public Radio's show Higher Ground. A highly requested accompanist and entertainer, Kim plays for many private parties, gala events, weddings, and receptions. Kim maintains an active piano studio where she instructs students of all ages.
Thursdays | Dan Hansen
Dan Hansen, pianist & composer, has played piano in the piano bar for many seasons, and his style is smooth and casual. "I enjoy ballads, and I try to keep the purity and beauty of a song without a lot of embellishment." A resident of Washington Island, Dan is involved with the Washington Island Music Festival, where he has the opportunity to play with musicians from the Milwaukee Symphony and play at many fund-raisers. He often brings these visiting musicians to T. Ashwell’s with him for an impromptu concert! Dan became interested in playing piano when he was 15. "I wanted to be able to play the Beatles’ ‘Hey, Jude,’" he admits. A graduate of University of Wisconsin/Stevens Point with a degree in Theory in Composition, Dan is also an accomplished writer. "I enjoy playing my own compositions. He recently released his first CD, Nature Alone: Songs of the Island (that's Washington Island), now available at T. Ashwell’s.
